Being A Gardener, You Should Know To Maintain Flower Plant Pots

I prefer plastic Flower plant pots: They are far easier to manage when you have a big plant. They are not breaking when tipping over. Clay or earthen pots evaporate water through their pores, which can be a good thing when growing plants that do not like to stay in soggy soil, such as cacti. But the evaporation also cools down the root and makes them growing around the pot wall, actually trying to grow into the material. This will make changing pots very hard, and you will often lose some root material. Plastic containers also come in a square shape, allowing to place many plants close together using up all this precious space. Plastic containers are far cheaper than earthen ones – and might be environmentally friendlier. It takes a tremendous amount of energy to produce the earthen pot, and usually, it will break after a few years.

Nowadays, there are plastic pots that mimick the fancy finish often seen on earthen pots, so looks are also no reason for not using plastic pots.

A disadvantage of plastic pots is their lack of weight when keeping large bushes such as oleander or maybe even a palm or olive tree. A clay pot is heavy enough to keep the plant standing despite strong winds.

Fertilizers For Plants In Flower Plant Pots

For flower plants in pots the rules are:

1. Have big tall pots (minimum 1.5 feet height and 1.5 feet diameter (this is to keep the plant healthy for a long time)

2. Fill the pot with soil, which is from a bottomless pit (pick up dirt from when holes are to dig for foundation, etc.). The land 4–5 feet below the earth would almost be dark red. Mix 2–3 other soil types again from different pits from different areas. (this is where the success lies)

3. The soil should be like soft – if hand-full of land is with the fist closed tight, then the earth would form like a ball, but when that ball is touched, it again breaks down to powder form – such consistency of land is good.

4. Fill the pot 1/3 with soil (taken from a bottomless pit) and fill one layer of semi-decomposed plant matter, decomposing fruit peals, etc. Then on top of that, fill a layer of Earthworm soil (black in color) and add 3–4 Earthworms. Fill the rest of the pot, again with the bottomless pit soil.

Further Instructions

  • Take the plant bought from nursery (usually in small plastic bags) – cut the plastic bag with sharp blade on 3 or 4 sides and slowly remove the plastic and insert the plant (before that make a pit like cavity in the plant pot to enter the plant along with the soil /mud) with the roots covered with mud /soil etc. without disturbing the soil in which it was grown in the first place.

  • Sprinkle water in the edges of the pot and not in the center. This was the root that will spread towards the whole pan (new).
  • Water the plant (spray) daily twice early in the morning and late evening for a week. Then water only once a day for a week.
  •  After 15 days Don’t water the plant every day – once in 2 or 3 days, depending on the soil condition is good enough.
